Our clients had a very specific French countryside/Art and Crafts motif in mind for this classic pre-war NYC Loft edit and hoped to combine the modern with the classical elements. Wrapped in red brick that the owners wanted to retain, imagining the collaborative matching color scheme was our primary challenge as red is such a dominant color.
Regarding the basement, we created defined spaces: a seating area in front of the fireplace, a bar, a dining area, a foyer, a bathroom with laundry and a storage/mechanical area.
The ceiling was lower, so to enhance these areas with light coves and play with ceiling heights.
To define the kitchen space for the rest of the open living dining area: the use of faux reclaimed wood
